been lurking on here for a while but no build thread since i didnt have much done yet.started with a stock 98 limited in august of 07.
i knew i wanted a grand cherokee and had a little plan on what i wanted to do.3 months after buying it,i bought a RC 4" lift, tom wood driveshafts and 32" bfg a/ts
the front tires did rub a little, did some trimming and then ordered a kor front stealth so i ripped off the stock cover

had the kor bumper put on and added a cb radio with 3' firestik after not being able to talk out on the trail when i needed to
next thing added on was a set of JCR stage II sliders
i ordered claytons long arms front and rear and bought some built axles from a guy in my club.front is an hp30 with yukon super joints, arb, alloys, warn lockouts, currie hd steering and 4.88s.rear is a tj44 with an arb and 4.88s.when i get the money i will order alloys for that as well. right now my rig is at matts(moonworks) getting all this put in.
was going to have it done at a local shop but they didnt seem to know squat about zjs.
plans are to add some 2" spacers(will be here tomorow-got in on the 5.80/spacer deal from teraflex),trim as needed and throw some 35s on.swap in a 231 also and quick discos.

here are some pics from a local trail i went to to get a little dirty(sorry again matt)
let me know what you guys think.when i get it back from matt,i will post up pics of the long arms/axles
i was underneath looking around before i left for your place and a bunch got in my eyes as well.would be cleaner but the local car wash wont let me in but to clean the interior
Little update to what Brandon has gotten done to his rig here recently.
Clayton LA's, 2" spacers up front of his 4.5" springs, swapped both axles, 44 rear got stripped down and all new Ballistic brackets welded in w/ a claytons truss, 231 swap w/ new AA SYE and new Tom Woods rear drive shaft, Kevins trackbar conversion w/ JKS adjustable trackbar. I didn't gear the axles but both axles have 4.88 gears w/ ARB's, rock crusher covers, and the front has alloy shafts and manual hubs. Slider also had to be modified a little to fit with the claytons brackets so they got welded on as well. He also got a couple new stickers for a bit more HP! lol
I'll let him update this with some wheeling pics!
alright im finally getting around to adding some pictures of the long arms and axle swap.
dropping it off
front crossmember going on
frame stiffeners
muffler gone
look Ma, no wheels!
hp30 in
truss on the 44
turdy 5 gone
44 painted and ready to go in
44 cover with some extra paint
rear arms done
new driveshaft
kor track bar conversion
workin on the t-case/sye swap
231 w/sye in
and of course the finished product
Wow fast build, looks great.
I think I see what you're talking about...that's a factory hole in the frame. I didn't burn through in any spots surprisingly enough. I've got the welder dialed in pretty good now. In the past I'd burn through here and there a little and I'd have to go back and fill it but not on his.
picked up some 35s from a guy in my club.mounting them on my current 15x8s and selling the 32s.
should be on in a week or so then i can figure out bumpstops, limiting straps(see pics below),etc.
probably picking up a tow hitch receiver this week then some armor.
also got the the exhaust done about a month ago.just got something called a double banana(almost a straight through) to pass inspection.
Jeep looks awesome except for the roof rack.
i just put that on again a couple days ago after it being in my basement all winter.taking it off again tomorrow with it dropping my mpg a little bit.but for 40 bucks its not bad
sold the roof rack.
have a question.whats the maximum about of thread that can safely be showing on the lower control arms?right now there is about an inch of thread showing and i need to push the axle forward some more.
The clayton arms are 2.5 inch long joints. I would not thread out the joint more than an inch and a half.
SO did you do the Warn lockouts? Or get the axle with them in? If you did them, did you get any pics along the way?
i wouldnt call it a fast build.i've had the jeep for almost 2 years.ran a 4" rough country for about a year and a half.picked up the axles a while back and waited until i bought the front and rear clayton kits and other parts and the stuff got put on all at once.when i get some free time and if the weather stays clear,i have some quicker discos to put on.also planning on having 35s mounted this week as well.
picked up a free spare tire in good shape with a decent amount of tread left.not an m/t but will get me by until i buy a better one.
before:
after:
got the 35" Maxxis buckshot mudders mounted earlier today before work.got them for 500 from a guy in my club and they are nearly new.
