Re: My work in progress...

well after taking about every hard line through the trails today I was very impressed with the heep. The front locker exploded and took out a tooth on the ring gear last week so I am currently open up front but got some brand new Yukons for FREEEEE. I walked up just about everything but had a little trouble on Rocky Mtn Loop only because that toothpick of a tierod decided to pretzel up on me.

taking the hard line

and what resulted

after winching it forward and bottle jacking it up it was good to go and got me home. Can you say Currie steering? I will have more pics later but am at my parents house and they live in the dial-up era, it sucks.

Re: My work in progress...

Just got back and wow it was one hell of a day. The group we went out with day did not fair so well. All in all ended up with 2 busted shafts, 1 destroyed driveshaft, body damage left and right, and my busted tcase. After high centering on a rock i smacked into a massive rock, bent my skid plate and crossmember and seperated the two halves of the transfer case. Onto the pics.

Unfortunately I know all about dial-up, it really does suck ass.

I live up in the middle of the mountains and so dial-up and satalitte TV are my only options.

still deciding on what route to take with the skid, build one vs. buy one from kevin, rusty, etc. As for the front diff I'm surprised at the kind of hits it took without phasing it. Regardless another BTF cover is in my near future.

oh and don't be hatin on my clear cawhnuhs yo, they be matchin my blingin silver interior.

Re: My work in progress...

Just reinforce the stock skid with some plate outlining it and some reinforcing members in the middle. I'd go snap some pics of how I did mine, but, um its somewhere in NC now.

Oh, and I guess I won't be buying that 242 from ya!

Re: My work in progress...

Brandon, you can have whatevers left of it.... so the bezel and the linkage. Reinforcing the stock skid may work but it will probably be just as cost effective to build a new one or buy one aftermarket.

The good news: My new steering held up fine.

Actually, I may be interested in the input shaft if its not FUBARed. Guess it all depends on what I end up getting a 242 out of. Well, I guess since you have a 4.0, the input shaft could vary from the 5.2 anyways.

It may be as cost effective to build a new one, but it also may be easier to reinforce the old one if it isnt bent too badly. Basically, if you look at the t-case side of the plate there is a groove that runs along the perimeter. I took some 1/4" plate (maybe 3-4" wide) and welded it into this groove all the way around. Then I used some of the plate to cover the drain plug access hole and also added a few cross braces to brace the plate that was around the perimeter. I basically had the entire jeep parked on this at one point and it didn't even flinch. Cheap, easy and effective. Ofcourse, not as cool as making a new one all together.

Re: White Lightning drag strip twin turbo ZJ!!!

The 242 is still holding up. it was not as badly damaged as i originally thought after last time out. Its mostly the seal that was leaking. A combination of unibody twisting and insane temperature fluctuations is taking a toll on the tranny/tcase seals and every so often i'll come out to a red puddle under the jeep.

These problems will be solved this winter, i've been doing alot of reading up on D300's.
