Im looking at buying a 1987 hpd60 out of an f350 and need some pics of what others have done for their drivers side spring perches since the drivers tube is 3.5" shorter than the late 70's model

I dont see a problem with mounting it on top of the pumkin/leaf perch but just want to get some ideas on how others have done this.

    thx.

I trimmed the cast housing back about a half inch to expose more steel to weld to. this was also perfect for centering the stock 36" spring perch space. I then heated the cast housing for a few minutes with a torch, and welded with my mig. I practiced on a few spare cast exhaust manifolds and got relatively good at it.

MIG on cast steel, sure. MIG on cast iron, no. It is really unfun to have things improperly welded to cast iron break off, believe me.

Preheat, high nickel rod, then post heat is the only way to weld mild steel to cast iron.

I'd drill and tap the leaf spring mount for 4 bolts/studs to mount a plate and then weld the coil mount to the plate.

thast a good idea....then perhaps weld that plate to some more steel that is welded to the tube?

I don't see anything "relatively" good in that pic. I sure hope that was just on there like that for setup and you welded and gusseted it properly after you got it all dialed it!

I took both my 14b and D60 to campbell enterprises and they used stainless rod and a tig on both to weld the tubes in.

I have had this rod suggested to me a few times since then. About to take the D60 back to campbell to have them weld a fourth control arm mount on top of the pumpkin...

Good read on the subject. Look at the posts by "Trango." <---- Old school grand guy.

O and look for a early D60. It is sooooooo much easier to get the brackets to fit. There are pictures of mine in my build post.

I remember tice's buggy ghost riding after we all pushed it back onto the tires on one of the last waterfalls on highway to hell.

Why would you want a purple buggy?
