Well I'm finally getting ready to start my ZJ build. Going to be doing a 4 link rear, 3 link front, 14b rear, d44 front, 5:13's, welded rear, some kind of lunch box locker up front, Hydro assist, cage, 38's, comp cut rear fenders, lots of front trimming...those are the basics. The build will hopefully be done by the start of summer or somewhere in the middle. I'm fabbing most of my brackets my self, building the 3 & 4 link, and cage myself. Right now i just got the 14 bolt cleaned up, made all my rear CA brackets, bought steel to start on the rear links and truss, ordered 100ft of 1 3/4 DOM for the cage. We are starting on the roll cage on the 1st or 2nd of jan. Heres a few pics of "progress"...not much but hey I'm finally getting started after months of seraching and planning.
Here she is before the build
Heres some of the 14b and cage...
The truss needs to come down tighter to the top of the pumpkin still. The tube on top was just there for checking how level it was.

WOW, theres alot of tube in that cage design. Bet you'll need more than 100ft and your COG is gonna go way up.
Ya I know...we arent building the cage exactly to that we are going to use 100ft to the best that we can. I'll post up pics of the cage when its done by next weekend hopefully. It wont be as complex as that drawing.
Sounds pretty cool...buy why the 44 front? I don't think that it would hold up so well to the 38's. You should go D60.
I agree. I can't tell by the pictures you posted, but if that 14B is a FF, it will be a 1 ton and most d44's are 1/2 ton. The 44 won't hold up very long to 38's and moderate wheeling without sinking a lot of money into it, and at that point, a 60 is probably the way to go.
Well I've got a 44 out of a f250 that is already 8 lug. From what i understand these are 3/4 ton 44's. I got a kickass deal on it so i figured why not give it a shot. Ya the 14b is FF.
The "3/4 ton" uses a lot to the same components that a 5, 6, lug uses. I believe the only thing that is upgraded and larger is the brakes. B ut yeah i know what ya mean about the good deal i also have 44s, just cant bring myself to step up to $ front end yet. Better baby that front end and also leave it open for sure.
Finished the cage today. Here it is.
Now on to the 14b and 4 link! I'll keep you guys updated.
Yeah i like that cage alot, just curious why you didnt bring the b piller center supports together? I doubt that it will really mke a difference , just wondering? what kind of rod ends are you using for the front and back?
Cool build
throw at least inner 4340 alloy shafts into that D44 to eliminate the kneckdowns (Alloy USA makes a set for the Ferd 3/4 ton 44) & you'll increase your chances of it holding up well for decently aggressive wheeling on 38's by a good bit plus if you break anything it should be a weaker alloy stub shaft allowing the stronger 4340 alloy inner to survive fine
I've had good luck with Yukon 4340 inners & Precision 371 joints in my bluggy's locked D44 turning 38" Boggers holding up better then the stock stubs (obviously ground out for full circle clips) so thats a pretty good combo for what your doing
nice cage
nice build ,
I like the cage.
Loose much leg room with the front feet not going through the dash?
Well we were originally going to bring them together but we would have had to notch the hell out of that tubing to get that angle so we just said screw it, it looks cool this way and wont weaken it anymore. I'm using 3/4 heims for the uppers in the rear, 2.5" jj's for the lowers and in the front i'll most likely run all 2.5" jj's
2.5" johnny joints came in! (Girlfriend got them for me!) I'll be getting to work on my rear arms real soon.

you gonna gusset those mounts or anything???? you gonna shave that 14b
Guy how stable is the heap on that Ground?? I am sure the cinder blocks spread out some of the weight but shit it would be nice to have a cement pad to work on. I look forward to seeing the comp cut on it.
im not too fond on that 14 bolt truss though , i think you should run a peice of rectangle tubing across the top and drill some holes down through it, and run the bolts vertically, the rest is nice though
simular to this
more pics of cage please
mainly the A pillar feet..and just...more pics and angles..thanks.
