The History of it:
I started wheeling my Jeep back when it was 2wd with a 2" BB and a set of 31s. Then I stepped up slightly to a 3" front to rear. Here's a pic at the now-closed Rich Mtn. Trail.
Then I converted it to 4wd back in the spring of 2002. A lot went wrong, but, after a month, it had a 3.73 geared d35 and d30 under it, along with a 242. A shot of it in the garage:
I swapped back and forth with the ATs and MTs for a while, wheeling it a little on each. The Jeep got an 8.8 from a 97 Explorer during this time, in January of 2004.
Then in the summer of 2004, I decided to go a little bigger. A waggy 44 went up front. Longarms allowed me to go up to 6" to run 35s.

looks good
are you running some sort of 5 lug>6 lug spacer on the 8.8 or did you get custom shafts?
They're custom alloy shafts from Dutchman. 5 on 4.5" to 6 on 5.5" adapters cannot be made narrower than about 2" per side. So that would gain me 4-5" trackwidth in the rear and essentially make it fullwidth. I had to get the rotors redrilled also.

Nice RIG!!
Did you already sell the 8.8?
Who is Tim Carlton and how do I get him to make me a set of Rock Rails??????
Nope, still running the 8.8, just with custom shafts so I can be 6 lug all around.
Tim is timzjatl on this and other forums. He originally built those sliders for his Jeep. He buggied it this summer though, so he sold them to me. Sorry, but I don't think he's interested in mass-production.
um, my buddy has an 8.8 with adapters to match the BP of his front waggy 44- and they are less than 1" thick
Wow. well I wish I had known that it was possible then. M.O.R.E and Spidertrax both told me that they would have to be 2 piece spacers at least 2" wide to go from 5x4.5" to 6x5.5".Originally Posted by MaineZJ
But I am still confused becuase there is overlap on my 8.8 rotors that were redrilled for 6 lug. Where did he get his? Are you sure he didn't convert the front to 5x5.5" and then get spacers to go from 4x4.5" to 5x5.5"?
Oh, Well that's fine. Kevin's it is I guess.Originally Posted by ATL ZJ

Adapters from performance wheel - 5x4.5 to 5x5.5 to match the front dodge hubs on waggy 44
Nice rig..................too bad you never wheel it.

Ha, you even had that Boobicon of yours in 4lo yet?Originally Posted by FinlayZJ
Yes, I had to go get some Messkins unstuck on the farm land in North Carolina. Apparently 1980's Chrysler Vinivans aren't that good at wheeling.Originally Posted by ATL ZJ
Pics of the Vinivan please. hahaOriginally Posted by FinlayZJ

Both of you come wheeling with Tim and I!
See, I can say that now because I dont have a ZJ to worry about. ops: YJ  37's
Oh I will. Even though my ZJ is still non-trailered and daily driven. It's broken before and I'm sure it'll break again.. Finlay might be a different story in his shiny new Bubi.Originally Posted by Pearce

Cam, why do you bust on my shiny new Rubicon? I think it's because you're jealous that my dana 44 front end has dana 30 outers.

i'm in the design stage of mine right now. i haven't decided how complicated i'm gonna make it, my 98 has that extra bump on each side of the grill.
Yeah it's 5" channel in the 3/16" variety. The top and bottom extend 1.75 inches back from the face of the channel. I thought about this design for a 96-98 and I think you could just snag a grille from a 95 or so and your problem is solved. Seems a hell of a lot easier that way than to account for that drop when you're working with 3/16" or 1/8" steel.
