I know that in general, the factory gears tend to be the "best", but they are also the most expensive. I know quite a few folks happy with their Yukon stuff, but for HP60 gears, there seem to be cheaper options out there.
Brands that make HP60 gears:
Yukon
Motive
Precision
USA Standard
Nitro
Superior
I'm sure I might be missing one or more companies, but just looking at various websites, prices seem to vary significantly from brand to brand, so I was curious if "you get what you pay for" is applicable here in any way -- i.e. are there any brands to avoid?

The only 2 brands I've had experience with are Sierra Gear & axle, and whoever was making 44a couple years ago.
Sierra Gear is the brand of West Coast Diffs, who are like 15 minutes from me.

I have them in my 44, and in my 9". No issues over the past few years and they aren't the most expensive!
I run Yukon gears in my 60 and have not had any issues to date. Have had a couple other components fail, but the gears have been fine, and they have definitely seen shock loads because I run a manual trans and a spool in that axle. The r&p side of Randy's is one of the better parts of their company, IMO.
I had Yukons in my last set of axles and now have Precision Gear in my new set up.
The Yukons lasted great and never had any issues or even any gear noise.
The precisions only have about 2000 miles on them and not really taken them off road yet. However no gear noise so far.
I have run a few different gear sets, all be it not in the Grand but I am currently running Richmond in the 9" I have in my Trans Am and it has seen some track time and some very hard launches and no problems as of yet.
Just stay away from Randy's USA Standard brand. They're a much lower line of Yukon's and I blew up the first set in my 9" the first trip out. Broke them in properly and all, luckily they warrantied them and now I'm running Yukon's without any issues so far and I've definitely been tough on them.
Thanks, Tyler. That's the brand I was actually most interested in hearing about -- because they were the cheapest.
Yukon's are my best (and cheapest option -- $225) for the rear. My buddy running a D70 actually told me that the ones he ordered a couple years ago were just Spicer's in a Yukon box, but there also wasn't any other aftermarket companies making 5.13 D70 gears at the time. Looks like Nitro also offers 5.13 D70 gears now, too.
For the front, I'll still do some more research, but USA standard is basically ruled out.
I have nitro gears 4.88's in my 8.8 and have been great so far.I also have G2's in my dana 30 and have been good aswell.
Tyler, doesn't USA standard make the Spartan locker for Randy's too? That's interesting that you say the gears are junk but word on the street is that Spartans are legit...
You should check out Sierra gear and axle as an option man. The price is pretty damn competetive (might have to call to see? They have a catalog on their website I'm looking at right now), but offer some good gear options.
They have thick 5.13 and 5.38 HP60 gears, and 5.13 and 5.86 gears for the D70
*EDIT*
Heres their actual website,

Not much first hand experiance myself as the only ones I've installed and used are the Motive gears in my 9". I bought them from Tom's Bronco here in town. I believe they are one of the top early Bronco specialists. The drivetrain tech there told me that they only use Motive gears after trying most other brands as they seem to set up easier and prove to be some of the stronger gears avaliable. Again, they only really deal with D44 and 9" stuff, but that is all they use.
Me and my brother have ran many sets of the motive gears in our race cars. Mainly in the ford 8.8. they hold up well. I was side stepping my clutch at 6k on 4.30 gears making about 500 rwhp on a 100hp wet kit of nitrous. and I NEVER had any issues out of my rearend. same with all my brothers mustangs. As far as wheeling goes we have only ran yukon. But i have a buddy that has a tj with a SBF on 44x19.5 tsl's and he is running a d60 front, 14b rear with the usa gears and he isnt haveing any problems at all. the 1st to break was his tcase. so i wouldnt rule them out. i would call randys and ask them about the brands.
I've got nitros in the front d30 and u.s. gear in the 44dh. i've got a little howl in the back from 20-30mph...
Good to know. Nitro was one of the brands I was curious about.
Its not on a 60 but on topic... Anyone run the 4.88s in a 44a? I forget the name but they are on nagca and I believe the only makers of 4.88s for the 44a
Nitro makes a set for the 44a. heres the linx.http://www.justdifferentials.com/ind...Path=22_32_504
I just put some nitro 4.88's in my 8.8 and so far so good.
Hey runsfine I saw you post up that ecgs hooked it up for you. Was there a coupon code or did you speak with someone in particular?
