That storage space is sweet! What a great use of space that is typically wasted!
i like it , good work
what do you do for a living
Interesting??? I'm a project manager/Estimator for a large Heavy Civil Construction Company.
Building this stuff is nothing more than a hobby and my way of relaxing after work..... Oh yeah, and a VERY good excuse for spending hours in the garage drinking nice cold beverages......
VERY NICE ! ( in the voice of borat )
That is a beautuful bumper! Definately makes me wanna go get better at welding and get some steel to play with.
Some pretty damn good work with an angle grinder - I'm impressed. My hands aren't nearly that steady.
That's friggin sweet.
Unfortunately, I ran out of welding gas about 10 minutes after starting today, but luckily I was far enough along to be able to pull it off the Jeep and do some most of the initial rough grinding. It did however give me an opportunity to do a good before and after on the welding and grinding for the corners.
Before final welding and grinding:
and after welding and grinding:
Here are some other pics from the I took while it was off:
Hey I tried to check out your tread about the front bumper build and they are not coming up. Can you shoot me some pics of it. I need to build one and I am trying to get ideas. I saw on your website that you made a roofrack also. Any pics would be great.
Nice build. I was looking at the earlier pictures and noticed the skid plate for the rear axle. Do you have any pics on how you attached the front by the pinyon? I was thinking of a strap that bolts on both sides across the top to nuts about half way down. I am working on a similar skid, in my head, for my and my brothers 44s to keep the rocks from pealing the cover off during drags and slides once we get our SYE's on and rotate the pinyon up.
Thanks,
Todd
You've pretty much got it. The top of the 8.8 was flat so I bolted up a piece of 1/4" plate and welded some all thread to the skid.
I've got pics of most of my work, and I've just recently realized how many of them were on Yahoo Photos that got zapped. Give me a chance and I'll try and get some of everything downloaded and put them in a build thread.
Your fab style is interesting. You like cutting little pieces? Cool though!
I've found that to work best with giving a smooth finish product around the curves. It's actually not near as many pieces as it looks. The whole corner is only 5 pieces, but to smooth it out I score the 3/16" plates into multiple triangles at the bend points, so that I can better wrap the pieces around the curvers. It did take a bit to get the hand of, but I think the end results are worth it.
nice bumper, what does it weigh?? how much time do you have into it ??
I will pay you to make me one just like this.

Already got a Hobart 180. Just don't have time and I'll be kicked outa my apartment complex if the catch me doin' the jeep thing in the parking lot again.
I love the storage idea. I was thinking of doing something similar between the rockers and frame rails under the Jeep. This I think is a better solution. Or maybe both.
