I think so, I wanted it to be just a little bit farther out, but the bumper got to skinny to fit the quick coupler. It is actually mounted with a quick coupler recessed inside the bumper to allow it to come off easily. I really only want the antenna on their when I need it so it's not too big of a deal to snap it on and off, and I didn't want it out to the side where it would always be getting whipped around by trees, so I thought I'd try it this way.

Thanks guys, things seem to be fitting together pretty good on this one. As for pics of the storage compartment, I just happened to have a set of new axles on my doorstep tonight, so I had to run a test fit. Here are some closeups of the storage compartment.

With the top on. Couldn't hinge it and keep access so it will just be a removable top plate:

And with the top removed and cargo in place, Ultimately I will probably make a cradle for the axles so they can't move around in there.

That's sweeeeet! mind if i use that idea? I wouldn't mind putting my Hi-lift in there. Keep it out of sight so the meth heads around here don't steal it. I can keep my spare axles in the hatch.

Not at all, pretty much the only reason I post is to hopefully help others out, and share my ideas. BUT.... thoughts of fitting a hi-lift my be a bit hard, or take a much larger bumper than I'm doing. To size it up a little for you, I was hoping to store my 48" flexible CB antenna in there, and I don't think I'm not certain I'll be able to get it in, so I hi-lift is most likely a bit of a stretch, but if that's you goal size it up and if its possible make it happen......

IT's the only place I can start new threads in, and I've never rally bothered to figure it out. I figure if most people are like me they just click on the "new posts" button and never even look at the forum name anyway. But nice catch maybe one of the moderators could fix that....

How are you holding the top plate in place?

I'm probably going try to use that idea too.

STill working on that part. I know the back will slide in under some tabs, and since I haven't been able to find any kind of latch for the front, I may try using some magnetic latches or something, but if I can't get that to work, I'll probably just put some flush allen screws in like I did on the front winch cover plate.

Interesting. I'm thinking of something similar for my front bumper build. Did you consider some form of keyed-access? Might be quicker access than allen screws.

some tabs for the side closest to the body to slide into and about 4 zeus fasteners for the other side would work pretty well and be very easy access... might want to think about some kind of lock - i doubt anyone would look in the bumper for stuff to take, but you never know

Also how do you plan on keeping the elements out? Do those plates fit in there pretty snug? Might want to put some sort of rubber gasket just on the inside. The fab work looks awesome though and the utility storage idea is sweet

I bet if you put a lock on people might get the idea that there's something valuable in there.

Both the keyed latch and the zeus fasteners are good ideas, I hadn't thought of either so I'll take a look at those and see if I can find something I like. As for actually locking it, I'm not concerned because you pretty much have to open the hatch to get the plate off and anything out of the box.

As for the elements, the top is fairly snug, but I am not making it water tight. I've got drain holes in the bottom to drain it, but it won't be completely enclosed from the backside, so it will keep air moving through to dry out.

depending on what kind of lock he put on there, it would not matter, the thing is made of steel plate, its not like you can take a claw hammer and tear it appart, and if you do resessed locks, then you wont have to worry about bolt cutters.

Sure, but I think you would quickly realize that the lead times and costs of the productions bumpers isn't so high after all. I'd probably even make the trailready bumper seem economical.

Not really, I will make cradles and tie-downs for the axles, and the only other thing I really plan to put in there is my spare fluids and they'll be sandwiched under the axles. I'm not planning this as a often access toolbox type thing, but rather something to keep stuff in the I hopefully never need, but always want around.
