Ok, I am in a pickle. I can put this HP30 and 8.8 in and run it with 4.56 gears, lock it front/rear and clayton long arm it, run 33's now and when they run down, run 35's and for the wheeling I do, i really DONT think ill break any axles..but i dunno, would it be smarter and whiser to save my money for a while longer, and get a 44 for front and a ford 9 for rear? Im so confusedd!
My opinion, up to 35s with the HP30 and the 8.8. Anything bigger you'd probably want the 44/9 combo.
I plan on going with the 44/9. I'll be running probably 33s to 35s for a while with this but my ultimate plan is to go to 36/37. Puma297 is running 35s on his HP30 and 8.8, I dont think hes had any problems with it.
with a locker, youre gonna bust a u-joint if you do some tough stuff. maybe not a catastrophic failure, but you can expect a failure. the passenger d30 shaft spit the ujoint cap off, and before i could tape it up, half of the needle bearings fell out. this was heaped onto several other issues at Moab this past September.
If the wheeling is sick, carry spares and you may consider upgrading to alloy shafts. I carry a spare set of D35 shafts and I have spare u-joints and outters already in a hub assy. only an inner driver side shaft for now... hoping to upgrade. i'm running d30 aussie locker/d35 limited slip on 4.56 right now.
one tube door is finished, ut are painted and smoothed down now..other one has been bent and evertthing, just gotta weld it together..had a problem with an xj this weekend, held us up and made us not go wheeling..
but it did snow.
maxx you just need some sliders.
let the fun begin
ordering 4.56 master installs tonight...getting front/rear lockrights for 100 each used from a friend as well..gotta get some new calibers and pads, other random crap, then just sandblast these and then start saving for claytons
