What do you guys have in the back to store all your tools and what not?
Currently a lot of my stuff is either free floating or in ammo boxes. I've been kicking around the idea of putting a tool chest back there so everything would have it's own home and be lockable.
I have a big rubermaid bin, but it's falling apart. I was thinking of building a floor about 16" high so I can put my spare tire in there along with all the spare parts.
Probably could rip out the rest of the back seats for more room even.
Then my dog would have an area to lie down on.
Most of my junk is in plastic bins I've "borrowed" from work... similar to those you see laying around parts stores on stock the shelves day but smaller in size. I'm also considering some type of canvas bag that could be attached to the seat backs to carry straps and what not - more or less a pouch. I had considered building a raised floor area too until I stumbbled across an idea for an internal tire carrier.
too many options, too little space.
Well I don't have a ton of room since I've got the 37" spare and the 8 gallon air tank...but I've got 2 Craftsman tool boxes and 2 no-name brand tool boxes (all plastic). I love the setup in the back of mine, I have anything I could need on the trail back there. I'll take some pictures later and post it up.
I had a rubbermaid bin in the old one, didn't like it, still shit all over the place.
I'm gonna have to look into the tool chest more.
One large bin didn't work for me either... somehow, no matter how hard I tried, everything always got wrapped up in something else and before long it was all on the ground. The small bins I use stack on top of one-another nicely but they due tend to dump out now and then, even with the inter-locking lids.
I've considered building an organizer/false floor to hold the bins in place and seperate from eachother, kind of like a tackle box. Once again space became an issue wanting to carry a spare inboard.
Alright, I put the pictures on my build page...the 1st page shows the spare tire carrier and how that is setup, the second page has the pictures of how all my tools/etc. are stored. http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14888
Here's a look at what I came up with to haul all my "stuff" in the ZJ.
It's made from 3/8" plywood, covered in carpet and bolted into the back with 4 bolts into the wheel wells. It allows me to still carry larger items in the back when necessary. The all thread is for support and to hold some small sliding bins that I intend to make some time soon.
Tire carrier looks great! I'd like to do something similar but keep the spare to the left side & at a factory angle.
That's what I want to do, only go across the hole back, over were the rear seats are.
I haven't had back seats in the Jeep for 4 or 5 years anyhow.
Here's the one I built while staying home "sick" from school, It perfect for haluing groceries/ things from the mall
I built a cubby on the right wheel well for fluids, cables, flash light, things of that nature. the center section holds tools, cooking shit for camping, and my lame ass MTX (soon to be removed) also holds tow straps and d rings in the ammo cans (thank you JAX army surplus) and the left wheel well is so small that i made it only accesable after folding down the back seat. I also left a little space between the front of the box and the hatch to put a rifle or similar object, as not to be seen by those with sticky fingers.

That looks really good Neil. I would like something like that but I just have to put too much stuff back there I have to take out that it doesn't make since for me.
Currently, I just got a large plastic container to hold a lot of my crap and the my tools in a seperate tool box.
Right now I have everything tucked under my rear seats. But Ive been thinking about removing the rear drvierside seat and building some sort of false floor there..
